What Muse can’t do
An honest bandmate tells you what they’re bad at. So does an honest product page.
Muse is an AI — a large language model with a musician’s brief. That makes her fast, patient, and broadly knowledgeable, and it gives her a specific set of blind spots. None of them are hidden failure modes we hope you won’t hit. They’re structural, and you should know them going in.
She can’t hear you
The chat is text only. Muse never hears your voice, your mix, or the difference between the take that worked and the take that didn’t. When she comments on your melody, she’s working from your description of it, and everything downstream inherits whatever your description missed. For anything where the sound is the point, she can suggest what to listen for — she cannot listen for you.
She has no taste, only patterns
A language model’s sense of “good” is an average of everything it has read. Averages are exactly what your song shouldn’t be. Muse can tell you a lyric is clichéd because clichés are patterns and patterns are her whole deal. She cannot tell you that your weird line — the one that breaks the pattern — is the best thing in the song. Some of your best lines will read as mistakes to her. Keep them anyway. She will sometimes be confidently wrong
On mainstream theory, common gear, and well-documented history, Muse is reliable. At the margins — an obscure pedal’s circuit, a b-side’s personnel, a precise date — she can state a wrong answer with the same fluency as a right one. This is a known property of language models, not a bug we expect to patch out.
- Treat specific factual claims (dates, specs, credits) as leads to verify, not answers.
- If a factual detail matters — you’re buying the pedal, citing the credit — check a primary source.
- Theory explanations are safer ground: they’re checkable against your own ears in minutes.
She doesn’t know your life
Career questions get useful structure from Muse — options, trade-offs, the questions you should be asking. But she doesn’t know your scene, your finances, your bandmates, or your ceiling for risk. Nothing she says is legal, financial, or contractual advice. Before you sign anything — a label deal, a sync license, a management contract — put it in front of a human professional who is paid to be accountable for the answer.
She’s a companion, not a collaborator with stakes
Muse doesn’t get a writing credit, doesn’t stay up worrying about your bridge, and isn’t changed by your record the way a bandmate would be. The relationship is real in the sense that the help is real; it is not mutual. If the chat ever starts replacing the humans you make music with, close the tab — the card works fine offline.
Where the boundaries are enforced
- Free chats are capped at five a night — partly economics, partly because the ritual is ten minutes, not two hours.
- On the free tier nothing you write is stored on our servers; sessions live in your browser. See privacy.
- The nightly card is deterministic and identical for everyone. No engagement algorithm decides what you see.
