How the chat works
No mystery under the table. Here’s the machinery.
Muse is an AI with a specific job
Muse runs on a large language model with a personality and a brief written for one audience: working musicians. She is tuned to talk about songwriting, music theory, gear, and creative process the way a knowledgeable bandmate would — with opinions, follow-up questions, and a bias toward getting you back to the instrument instead of keeping you in the chat.
That last part is deliberate. A companion that optimizes for longer conversations is optimizing against your song. Muse’s job is to be useful in a few exchanges and then get out of the way.
The card and the conversation
The House Deck and the chat are wired together. When you flip tonight’s card and open the chat, Muse knows which card you’re holding and which phase of the ritual you’re in — just flipped, mid-attempt, or done and reporting back. If you burn the card, she asks where you’re actually stuck (words, melody, rhythm, or tone) and deals the replacement from that suit.
The deck itself is deterministic: 32 cards in a fixed order, seeded by the date. There is no algorithm reading your mood. Everyone on earth gets the same card each night, which is the point — a shared wall, not a personalized feed.
What Muse remembers
- Within a session: the whole conversation. Paste a verse early and refer to it twenty messages later; she still has it.
- On the free tier: sessions are stored in your browser’s localStorage only. Nothing is saved on our servers. New device, cleared browser, incognito window — blank slate.
- On the paid tier: session history syncs across devices, so a conversation started on your laptop is there on your phone.

Free and paid, precisely
- Free: tonight’s card, five chats a night (Google sign-in before the first message; the count resets at midnight), sessions kept in-browser only.
- Paid ($4.99/month on the web): unlimited chats, cross-device session history, priority response when the table is busy. Manage or cancel any time from the toolkit via Stripe’s billing portal.
The card is never behind the paywall. It’s the same card for everyone, paid or not, and it always will be.
What the chat is not
Muse doesn’t listen to audio, doesn’t read your DAW session, and can’t hear that your G string is flat. Text in, text out. She also doesn’t write songs for you unless you ask her to — and the limitations page makes the case for why you mostly shouldn’t. For what she is good at, start with what you can ask.
