A split sheet is the plain paper trail of who wrote what and how much of the song each person owns. Agree on it while everyone still loves the song, before it goes out into the world and the answer starts to matter. This is a record you can print and sign, not legal advice, so if real money ends up on the line, get a real lawyer too.

Keep a signed copy for every writer. A split sheet documents an agreement; it does not register copyright or replace legal advice.

How to use

  4. Print the sheet or copy its text and circulate the exact version for review. Keep the completed record with the project’s credits and the separate release paperwork.

It prepares a split sheet with signature lines for your review process. Printing or copying the sheet does not collect signatures or move money. Complete the collaborators’ agreement and any registration or payment setup separately.
What should I check before sharing the sheet?
Check the song title, contributor names, roles, percentages and date. Resolve missing contributors or disputed entries with the people involved before treating a version as final. The current draft is saved in this browser, so retain a separate copy of the version the group reviewed.
