How to use
Quick start: Free Online Guitar Tuner
- Press Start tuner and allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- Pick a reference pitch for A4. 440 Hz is the usual standard; 415, 432, and 442 are there for baroque, alternative, and some orchestral setups.
- Pluck one open string and let it ring. The tuner shows the nearest note, the frequency it hears, and how many cents sharp or flat you are.
- Tighten the string if the needle sits left of center (flat) and loosen it if it sits right (sharp). The note glows when you are in tune.
- Move to the next string and repeat. The guitar string row highlights the string nearest to what you are playing.
Questions
- Does the tuner record or upload my audio?
- No. The microphone is read live in your browser to find the pitch. Nothing is recorded, saved, or sent anywhere.
- Why does the tuner say my browser is not supported or blocked?
- Live tuning needs microphone access. If you see a blocked message, check the microphone permission for this site in your browser settings and try again. Recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari are supported.
- What does the reference pitch setting change?
- It sets the frequency the tuner treats as A4. At 440 Hz, A4 is 440 Hz; choosing 432 or 442 shifts every note target to match. Use 440 unless the people you are playing with agreed on something else.
- Can I tune a bass, ukulele, or other instrument with it?
- Yes for any single pitched note, since it is a chromatic tuner that names whatever note it hears. The string highlight row is built around guitar strings, so for other instruments rely on the note name and the cents meter.

The card that calls for the tuner
Muse deals one constraint card a night from a 32-card deck, the same card for every musician. This one points straight at the tuner.
FIELD RECORDING SMOKE · No. 31 / 32
Record two minutes of wherever you are: traffic, fridge, rain. Put it under the music, and write to the room’s key.
