How to use
Quick start: Chord Transposer and Capo Calculator
- Paste a chord chart with chords on their own lines, or use square brackets for inline chords such as [Am] and [G]. Keep your original chart separately.
- Choose the current key and the target key, or move the chart one semitone at a time. Check that the selected source key describes the song rather than simply its first chord.
- Read the resulting chords and compare the capo positions below the chart. The table shows the shapes to play for each listed capo position in the target key.
- Play through the progression, then test the melody in that key. Copy the result and adjust spacing if a longer or shorter chord name moved the alignment.
Questions
- What is the difference between chord shapes and sounding key?
- A capo raises the pitch of the shapes you play. For example, a G shape with a capo at fret two sounds as A. Use the capo table when you want a different sounding key while keeping comfortable open shapes.
- Can the transposer change an audio recording?
- This tool changes chord text and calculates capo shapes. It does not process an audio file. Check the transposed chart with your instrument and voice before handing it to the band.
